Educators contribute to the profession.

Wahoooo! I am officially a teacher. It has been both an amazing and humbling experience as I now realize that I am going to be in charge of educating our future citizens. Part of being an educator is engaging in professional development and helping out one another. One thing that I have learned in the past few months, is this is not a profession you can do alone. As teachers, we lean on one another. Part of this community means contributing to the profession.

As a new teacher, I have a community of educators that have helped me, and it is part of my job to give back. Some ways that I have done that is by going to Pro-D Days to learn myself, but also to coordinate and communicate with other educators. Additionally, there are a lot of my fellow teacher candidates who have created a community based on helping one another with management, resources and creating meaningful content for our curriculum. I am grateful for my own colleagues that have helped me, and I work hard to help them in return whenever I have the chance.

When I first started on my journey towards becoming an educator, I thought that because I was just coming into the profession, I didn’t have anything to offer to other teachers. Along the way, I have been encouraged and supported by many teachers who have shown me that this misconception of myself isn’t true. I might not have expected it, but I have been able to share resources and ideas which have been implemented into the classroom.

By abiding by this standard, I have realized the power of my own ideas and that everyone has something to offer in this profession. After all, it takes a village to raise a child, and the same might be true for teaching a child.
