My name is Brivee Mueller and I would like to acknowledge that I had the privilege to grow up and find who I am on the unceded territory of the Saik’uz First Nations. I am also humbled to acknowledge that I currently live, learn and call my home on the unceded territory of the Lhedli T’enneh in Prince George, BC.
Now that I am finished the education program, I am headed into the teaching profession excited and humbled. My own experiences have been connected to my goals as an educator and my ongoing teaching ideology has been enriched throughout my learning in the program.
Who I am as a person is very crucial to who I am as an educator. I am a kind, empathetic and outgoing person. I love to laugh and find the positives, even in tough situations (and this was very necessary through my long six years of university). I am a big family person and they have truly helped shape who I am today. I also adore adventure. I grew up going hiking, fishing and camping and it truly fuels my adoration for the world around us. All of these aspects of who I am are important to teaching because they influence my values and perspectives when it comes to classroom learning.
Even though my own experiences will continue to shift who I am as an educator, I know there are a few things that are truly a part of who I am. I know I am a teacher who is deeply invested in creating a caring classroom. My relationships with my students are the most important thing to me. I also value inclusivity in every aspect of my teaching. I want to make sure every student feels like they belong and are welcomed in the learning space. Inclusivity also means differentiating my teaching so that every student has access to the learning we are doing. Making learning local and meaningful using students interests and needs is also crucial to me.
Who I am continues to grow and evolve. A big part of teaching is committing to being a life-long learner. I am excited to see where my journey as an educator takes me.
